Indeed, since 1958 when the American Medical Association accepted hypnosis as a treatment modality, there have been literally thousands of successful studies conducted by main-stream research facilities supporting the efficacy of this field. The subjects of this rigorous research has not only included psychosomatic illnesses, but has considered the positive impact of hypnosis on pain management, wound healing, and many physiological conditions such as cancer, lupus, sickle cell anemia, and others.
After the American Psychological Association approved hypnosis in 1959, similar studies have occurred in the mental health arena. The APA has a dedicated division covering the study of hypnosis.
Unfortunately, most clinical professionals have either no hypnosis training or training which has been limited to a weekend or a 40 hour orientation course, often covering a very limited set of skills.
