Hypnosis: placebo or nonplacebo?

According to Grunbaum's definition of placebo, a therapeutic procedure can be considered a nonplacebo if it can be demonstrated that its effects are produced according to the theory upon which the therapy is based.

If the theory is adopted that hypnotic effects depend upon mobilization of the patient's hypnotizability, which is a measurable characteristic, a testable theory is provided. Experimental literature shows that placebo effects are not related to hypnotizability. Clinical outcome studies make it clear that results of hypnotherapy are related to hypnotizability in some disorders such as pain and anxiety, but not in the treatment of addiction or habit disorders. Hypnosis is nonetheless usefully applied for its placebo value as a method to generate positive expectancies.

So you have an allergy

Even though I consider all allergies is being significant and serious, I'm a firm belief that all allergies can be positively affected by the use of hypnosis. I became interested in the number of reproductive-related issues that can be affected by a woman's mental state. There are a high number of researchers who had looked into how stress affects various issues regarding a woman's health. As way too many in the medical field considered hypnosis primarily as a stress reduction tool, they were more than willing to look at the relationship between hypnosis and woman's health. Over the years there has been more interest in looking at...

Accelerating Healing by Improving your Somatic Intelligence

Can the use of suggestion and imagination improve physiological healing? Controversial studies at the Harvard Medical School have left the allopathic medical community scratching their collective heads. Two separate research projects conducted by a team led by psychologist Carol Ginandes, PhD, indicated that a significant number of patients who combined guided imagery hypnosis and traditional allopathic care tended to heal significantly faster than those who followed only an allopathic regimen. Their findings mirrored similar research involving improving the immune system of sufferers of...
